Congress condemned the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh on Wednesday. Party President Sonia Gandhi expressing anguish over the incident said that intolerance is raising the head with ugliness in our society, it can not be tolerated. Gandhi said, "There was extraordinary patience and determination to take the iron with the mechanism within the Gauri Lankesh, known for fearless and independent ideas."
He further said, the serial killings of intellectuals, independent thinkers and journalists in the country have created an environment that shows that expression of dissent, ideological differences and ideas can put our life in danger. It can not be tolerated and should not be done. "Sonia's statement issued by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) said," This is a very sad moment for our democracy and it is a memory of this fact. Assures that intolerance and fanaticism are raising our head in our society. Sonia has urged Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to immediately arrest the culprits.
