Kalyan Singh and Mulayam Yadav Apart, Kalyan Singh Close To BJP


Kalyan Singh who as the then Chief Minister of the state had presided over the demolition of the Babri Masjid was strongly opposed by muslim supporters of SP. Several prominent muslim leaders including Azam Khan deserted Mulayam on the issue which hurt the support base of the SP.

The rout of the SP in by-polls last week proved to be the nail in the new found friendship between Mulayam and Kalyan Singh.

Stung by the crushing defeat of his daugther-in-law Dimple Yadav in Ferozabad parliamentary seat and loss in traditional strongholds like Barthana and Etawah assembly segments, Mulayam Singh Yadav by disassociating himself from Kalyan Singh has renewed his efforts to build bridges with the Muslim community, of which he was once hailed as a champion.
