Paralympian Devendra Jazrajia-Sardar Singh received Arjuna Award for Khel Ratna, Pujara-Harmanpreet

Former Indian hockey captain Sardar Singh and Paralympic Javelin (spear throw) thrower Devendra Jhajaria have been selected for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award for the highest honor. Jazrajya won the gold medal in the 2016 Rio Paralympic.   The names of 17 players of the Arjuna Award have been announced this year, including cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara and Harmanpreet Kaur besides Paralympics medalist Mariyappan Thangavelu and Varun Bhati and Golfer SSP Chaurasia.  Under the leadership of Sardar Singh, one of the best defensive mid-fielders of modern hockey, India won two consecutive silver medals in the Commonwealth Games. At the same time, in the same captaincy, India won bronze medal in the 2015 Hockey World League. In 2015, he was awarded Padma Shri.


Making a world record in the 2016 Paralympics, Devender Zazaria (36), who won gold medal, participates in Jvilleine Throw's F46 event. He has won this gold in Athens in 2004.
