Mahindra Thar New SUV Car Launched By Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), India's market leader in utility vehicles (M&M's utility vehicle product portfolio includes the Scorpio, Bolero, Xylo and the pick-ups.) on Tuesday announced the launch of 4X4 off-roader the Mahindra Thar CRDe, in India.

The Thar has been selling in the South African markets, since the past two years, for Rs 9.5-10 lakh. "It is the need for a retro-styled product that has forced M&M to launch the product in Indian markets".

The Thar is a manual 4x4 machine coupled with a powerful CRDe engine 77 kw (105 BHP) & drive by wire technology which is capable of providing it variable speeds and acceleration. To handle this excess power, THAR CRDe's tough rigid ladder frame chassis has been optimised to enable crisp handling. Modern suspension layout of IFS and abuse resistant rear leaf springs delivers a great balance between ride and handling.

 Features of Mahindra Thar

1. The Mahindra Thar, a derivative of the globally renowned Commander Jeep 5 (CJ5), has improved suspensions and features and better ground clearance to take on tough roads.

2. It is powered by a 2.5 litre CRDi diesel engine, which gives a power of 105 BHP and a torque of 247 Nm @ 1800-2000 rpm.

3. The company claims that it is India's first BS IV CRDe diesel engine in soft top.

Thar is a reworked version of the Commander Jeep that was pulled off the roads in early 2000.

Price : The Mumbai-based utility vehicle major has priced the Thar at Rs 5.99 lakh in Delhi, Rs 6.01 lakh in Bangalore, Rs 5.97 lakh in Thane and Rs 6.28 lakh in Mumbai. The Thar DI BS III variant is priced at Rs 4.47 lakh (ex-showroom Jaipur).
